Well, we made it through the whole month of March on the one-smoothie-meal-a-day plan. At least I did. I think Kat missed one day. All together, it was a successful experiment. I dropped a little weight and do feel healthier overall. We tried quite a few different combinations and figured out what we like and don’t so much care for.
One thing I think I solidified this morning is that fewer ingredients might be better for a while. This morning looked something like this:
- 1/2 cup Fage Greek yogurt
- 2 oranges, peeled
- 1 mango, peeled and cut into chunks
- 1/2 cucumber
- ~2 tbsp sliced ginger root
- ~1 cup frozen strawberries
- ~1/2 cup shredded coconut
It was pretty good all together but a little heavy on the ginger. We have talked about maybe trying to use just two overall ingredients in our smoothies for a while and see how that goes. All the different flavors together gets a little overwhelming at times.
I’m not sure it will continue to be an everyday thing, but it may well be. Smoothie’s are a relatively quick and easy meal. They are generally pretty filling and satisfying. They seem to be fairly healthy, at least as an alternative to many things. We do need to read a bit more and think on the fructose overload issue I mentioned earlier. I think we’ll forego spending the big bucks on a juicer for the moment.
And as far as blogging goes, I’ll try to keep this habit going on occasion as well. I’ll just have to figure the next halfway interesting thing to write about.
